We are please to announce the orientation for the 2017-2018 cohort will take place on campus from May 24 – May 25. YX librarians will meet as a group on May 24 to learn more about their courses, meet each other, explore the course spaces, and see the campus. On May 25, the YX librarians will participate in the Human Computer Interaction Lab Symposium. During their sessions at the HCIL Symposium, the librarians will begin learning about design thinking and how to applying it to their communities. Application Window Opens, Information Session, and Participatory Design Sessions at ALA Midwinter Meeting
Applications for the first cohort of Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Youth Experience (YX) offered by the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland will open January 9, 2017. This innovative, online post-masters certificate will give youth service librarians the skills they need to integrate the latest research on learning, technology, community partnerships and design thinking into their practice with youth ages 0-18. Substantial tuition support is available through the generosity of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The YX faculty will host an online information session on January 10, 2017 at 1 pm EST. The information session will describe the courses in this certificate that will enhance librarians’ skills to incorporate design thinking, participatory design, and connected learning into their programming, as well as provide details on the application process. The session will be recorded and the link made available after the session.
