YX Librarians to Present at ALA Annual

The first cohort of Youth Experience (YX) Certificate librarians will present on the inaugural program at ALA Annual Conference this summer in New Orleans, LA. The title of their pre-conference workshop is “Bridging the Tech Knowledge Gap: Empowering Your Community Through a Seamless Youth Experience (YX) Design” and will be facilitated by YX Librarians Heather Thompson, Shannon Lake, Jennifer Ilardi, and Rachel McDonald, as well as YX Certification Director Mega Subramaniam and partners Marijke Visser (from ALA OITP) and Linda Braun (from YALSA).

The presenters will share how they’ve transformed their library’s services to youth by shedding the title of ‘expert’ and stepping into the role of a facilitator with the YX design approach. Through real-life examples and hands-on activities, participants of this workshop will learn how to incorporate youth as co-designers, co-learners, and peer mentors in technology-rich library programs.
